Basic data entry in the Farm Data tab

Enter basic data in the Farm Data tab
  • Farm Data > Farms
    • Click New to select a new farm.
    • Click on a weather station to select the long-term soil temperature.
Soil temperatures are needed to estimate N mineralization from soil organic matter, from organic fertilizers and from crop residues.
The list of weather stations can be sorted by clicking on the column headers.
  • Farm Data > Fields
    • Click New to add a new field.
  • Farm Data > Crops
    • The N-Expert database contains many crops. Therefore, it is recommended to choose which crops are cultivated in a farm. The subsequent entry of crops is greatly simplified by the short list of in-house crops.
    • Click Filter to select the crop type (vegetable, arable, green manure)
    • In-house crops can be added to the left list by clicking and dragging, or by clicking on crops in the left list and clicking Add . Multiple selection with ctrl key + click is possible.
  • Farm Data > Nmin estimates
    • If no Nmin analysis results have been entered, N-Expert estimates the Nmin values.
The starting values for the estimation will be the Nmin values entered here. These starting values must be generated for each new calendar year.
    • Click New to create the default starting values for a calendar year.
The default values can be overwritten for each calendar year by empirical values typical for the farm or values of representative reference areas.
  • Farm Data > Soil temperatures
    • Soil temperatures are needed to estimate N mineralization from soil organic matter (humus) and N mineralization from organic fertilizers.
Soil temperatures must be generated for each new calendar year.
    • Click New to generate the default soil temperatures for a calendar year. The standard soil temperatures are the long-term averages of the weather station selected when the farm was entered in the data base. The default values can be overridden by current measurements for each calendar year.
  • Farm Data > Mineral fertilizer
    • The N-Expert database contains a lot of mineral fertilizers. Therefore, it is recommended to choose which fertilizer to use in a farm. The subsequent entry of fertilization measures is greatly simplified by the short list of in-house fertilizers.
In-house fertilizers can be added to the left list by clicking and dragging, or by clicking on a fertilizer in the left list and clicking Add . Multiple selection with ctrl key + click is possible.
    • Click New to create a new fertilizer that is not already in the fertilizer list.
